William C. McFee

William Charles McFee Jr., born on December 28, 1954, in Atlanta, Georgia, was a man whose presence left an indelible mark on those who knew him. While he may have passed away on March 11, 2005, his legacy and impact continue to resonate.

Growing up in Atlanta, McFee attended Fernbank Elementary School and graduated from the esteemed Westminster Schools in 1972. A bright and ambitious individual, he went on to earn a combined Law and Business degree from Emory University in 1979, following his graduation from Vanderbilt University in 1975.

McFee’s professional journey led him to specialize in real estate law, practicing with the esteemed firm of Schulten, Ward & Turner in Atlanta. His expertise in the field earned him the distinction of chairing the Real Property Section of the State Bar of Georgia, where he made significant contributions to the legal community.

Beyond his legal pursuits, McFee was deeply involved in various aspects of his community. He served on the Board of the Atlanta Young Singers of Callanwolde, demonstrating his commitment to supporting the arts.

Tragically, McFee’s untimely passing left a void in the lives of those who cherished him. To honor his memory, his close friend and former Emory Law classmate, Mr. Robert D. Carl, III. donated generously to the William C. McFee Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund established by the McFee family. Since its inception in 2008, the fund has provided an annual scholarship to an Emory Law student interested in pursuing a career in public service—an area close to Bill’s heart.

Bill believed in the power of public service and understood the challenges faced by aspiring lawyers burdened with student loans. Through the scholarship fund, his family aimed to alleviate this financial burden, enabling talented individuals to pursue their passion for public service law without limitations.

Ellen McFee, Bill’s widow, shared his dedication to this cause and emphasized the importance of supporting students who strive to make a positive impact through their legal careers. The scholarship fund serves as a lasting tribute to Bill’s legacy, ensuring that his values and commitment to public service continue to inspire future generations.
