Michael Edward Capps Jr. was a remarkable individual whose vibrant spirit and extraordinary talents left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him. Born in 1987 in Altamonte Springs, Florida, Capps possessed a deep love for life, family, friends, and music that was truly unmatched. His unwavering passion and conviction were evident in every aspect of his life, inspiring all who crossed his path.

After graduating from Lake Howell High School in 2006, Capps went on to pursue higher education at UCF Burnett Honors College, where he thrived academically and further honed his musical talents. In 2010, he made a significant move to Atlanta, Georgia, and continued his educational journey at Emory School of Law, graduating with distinction in 2013.

While pursuing his legal studies, Capps’ passion for music led him to become a multi-talented musician and the lead guitarist for the beloved band “Surrogates.” His remarkable talent and infectious energy on stage captivated audiences, bringing joy and inspiration to all who experienced their performances.

In addition to his musical endeavors, Capps established strong professional connections as a law partner and close friend of Trey Wakefield at Capps and Wakefield, Attorneys at Law. Through his dedication and legal expertise, he made a meaningful impact in the legal community

Capps’ quick wit and sense of humor were contagious, brightening the lives of everyone he encountered. He had a remarkable ability to make people smile, laugh, and feel truly valued. His genuine care for others and the countless lives he touched serve as a lasting testament to his character.

Tragically, Capps’ life was cut short on June 12, 2015, when he passed peacefully in his sleep. However, his legacy lives on through the Michael Capps Scholarship Endowment, a remarkable initiative established in his honor by his devoted mother, Valerie Guiles. The scholarship endowment stands as a testament to Michael’s enduring impact and his passion for education and music, providing aspiring students with the support they need to pursue their dreams.

Although Michael’s physical presence is deeply missed, his enduring legacy continues to inspire. His unwavering passion, love for music, and ability to connect deeply with others serve as a reminder to embrace life to the fullest and strive to make a positive impact.
