Meyer Warren Tenenbaum
Meyer W. Tenenbaum, a distinguished alumnus of Emory University, was a man of remarkable achievements and a dedicated supporter of education. Born in Poland around 1908, he embarked on a remarkable journey that would shape his life and leave a lasting impact on others.
At the age of thirteen, Tenenbaum arrived in the United States, brimming with ambition but unfamiliar with the English language. Undeterred by the challenges, he pursued his education with unwavering determination. Eleven years later, he proudly graduated from the Emory School of Law, an accomplishment that showcased his perseverance and intellect.
Following his graduation, Tenenbaum rose to prominence as a visionary leader in the business world. He became the head of Chatham Steel Corporation, which grew under his guidance to become a significant steel service center with headquarters in Savannah, Georgia. Through his astute leadership, Tenenbaum played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s success and reputation.
Recognizing the transformative power of education, Tenenbaum established the Meyer W. Tenenbaum Scholarship Endowment at Emory University in 1966. The purpose of this endowment was to provide scholarships for deserving students in the School of Law. His commitment to supporting the education of future generations highlighted his belief in the value of knowledge and the potential for positive change it holds. Tenenbaum passed away in 1973.
In 1997, Meyer Tenenbaum’s son, Samuel Tenenbaum, ‘65C,established the Tenenbaum Family Lectureship in Judaic Studies as a tribute to his late father and their entire family. This prestigious lectureship, held annually, honors the Tenenbaum family’s legacy of citizenship and public service. The family’s commitment to religious, educational, social service, and arts institutions across the United States reflects their ethos and dedication to making a difference in society.
