John Kenneth Halvey, a distinguished figure in the legal field, has left an indelible mark on the world of intellectual property law and outsourcing transactions. Born with a clear sense of priorities, Halvey’s professional journey has been fueled by a passion for technology and innovation. While at Emory University School of Law, he penned an award-winning law review article on copyrighting computer programming, foreshadowing his future expertise.
In 1986, John joined Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy, where he was presented with an opportunity to help start an intellectual property group specializing in outsourcing. Embracing this chance wholeheartedly, he quickly emerged as one of the nation’s top attorneys in the outsourcing domain. Moreover, his exceptional skills and dedication were rewarded when he was appointed partner at Milbank. His intellectual property group, comprised of 11 attorneys, amassed over $3 million in annual billings.
Renowned for his expertise in handling outsourcing deals, Halvey’s work has attracted clients from some of the largest companies in the country. In contrast to other law firms where intellectual property groups struggled amid intense competition, Milbank has thrived, thanks to its specialization in outsourcing transactions.
Beyond his legal achievements, John Halvey is also a published author, contributing valuable insights to the field and sharing his knowledge through extensive lectures. In addition to his illustrious legal career, John Halvey has been honored with the Corporate Leadership Award by Legal Services NYC for his contributions as Group Executive Vice President and General Counsel at NYSE Euronext.
