Eversheds Sutherland
Eversheds Sutherland (previously known as Sutherland, Asbill &Brennan) is a U.S. law firm that has upheld high standards and a commitment to integrity for over 90 years. Founded in 1924 by William Sutherland and Elbert Tuttle, the firm initially gained recognition for its expertise in tax law and later expanded into various practice areas including corporate, energy, financial services, intellectual property, litigation, and real estate.
During the New Deal era, the firm excelled in tax law by navigating the complexities of the legislation, with notable contributions from Joseph Brennan. It also took on significant pro bono cases, such as the landmark Johnson v. Zerbst right-to-counsel case in 1938.
