Debra Cohen de Rothschild was an exceptional individual and accomplished trial lawyer. She was born on July 9, 1959, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. She attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from Miss Hall’s School in 1977. She furthered her education at Brandeis University, earning a B.A. degree in history cum laude in 1981. In 1986, she obtained her J.D. from Emory University School of Law.

After graduating from Emory, de Rothschild embarked on a successful legal career in New York City. She initially worked with the New York Legal Aid Society, gaining invaluable experience as a criminal trial attorney. With a deep sense of dedication and courage, she later established her own criminal defense practice. Debra was known for her unwavering commitment to providing a passionate defense for those in need, firmly believing in the right to a fair trial for everyone, regardless of their social standing.

Debra de Rothschild became a respected advocate for the rights of battered women and children. She made significant contributions to the field and took on numerous celebrated cases in New York and beyond. Her legal work was marked by integrity, compassion, and a relentless pursuit of justice. She was highly regarded by colleagues, adversaries, and jurists alike.

In addition to her legal career, de Rothschild actively participated in philanthropic endeavors. She served as a trustee of Miss Hall’s School, her alma mater, and was a member of the Park Avenue Synagogue in New York.

Debra de Rothschild was a beloved wife to Robert deRothschild, and together they had a son named Jacob Alain deRothschild. She was a loving daughter, sister to Joel M. Cohen,aunt, niece, and cousin. Though she passed away in 2001, hermemory lives on through the Debra Cohen de RothschildScholarship Fund, established by her husband in 2002 to honorher legacy. The scholarship fund aims to support and recognizeoutstanding individuals within Emory Law School, continuingDebra’s commitment to excellence, fairness, and the pursuit ofjustice.
