Boisfeuillet Jones was president of several major Atlanta philanthropic foundations: the Robert F. Woodruff Foundation, Inc.; the Joseph B. Whitehead Foundation; the Lettie Pate Evans Foundation, Inc.; the Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation, Inc.; and, until its transfer of assets as a gift to Emory University in1979, the Emily and Ernest Woodruff Fund. Inc.

A vice-president and administrator of health services for Emory University in the 1950s, Mr. Jones led a restructuring of Emory’s medical/hospital facilities into the multifaceted complex it is today. A recognized authority on national health care policy, he has advised a number of national agencies, as well as the Democratic National Committee and Presidents Kennedy and Johnson, on health care issues.

Mr. Jones, an Emory University Trustee from 1964 to 1983, has also served as a trustee of the Atlanta University Center and the Atlanta Speech School, the chairman of the board of directors of Economic Opportunity Atlanta, and as a member of the boards of Central Atlanta Progress and the Council on Foundations. A graduate of Emory College (1934) and Emory School of Law (1937), Mr. Jones received the Emory Alumni Association’s Award of Honor in 1962,an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 1982, and the Distinguished Law Alumnus Award in 1985.

The Boisfeuillet Jones Law School Scholarship, established by his family, seeks to uphold Mr. Jones’ legacy of philanthropy and leadership. It supports deserving students who exemplify his dedication to making a positive impact on their communities and who aspire to follow in his footsteps as compassionate, innovative leaders in law and public service.
